Your responsibilities

  • Preparing invitation to tender (ITT) documentation for a broad range of civil engineering packages (works, design, supply etc.) from a contractual perspective.
  • Participation in tender process for a broad range of civil engineering packages.
  • Leading negotiations with subcontractors from a contractual perspective.
  • Contribution to weighted tender evaluation and making recommendations in relation to the selection of tenderers.
  • Making records of deviations made to standard positions, including justifying why those deviations are a good business decision.
  • Preparation for and delivery of presentations to senior management in relation to selected tenderers and the terms of engagement.
  • Negotiation, drafting and amendment of contractual documents.
  • Coordinating and making records of the signing and execution of contractual documentation (and other relevant instruments).
  • Make recommendations to the development of GTCs and other utilised forms of subcontract.
  • Engaging and developing working relationships with a range of internal and external disciplines, including civil engineering, sales department, legal, treasury and insurance.
  • Consider and give recommendations about complex contractual scenarios.
  • Keep the wider teams informed about relevant industry developments.
  • Willingness to be flexible in terms of work, which may be outside of the civil engineering sector.
  • Develop and deliver internal training on relevant topics.
  • Stay aware of the HSE requirements relevant to role and implement and comply with them.
  • Adhere to company policies on a range of working practices.

Your experiences

  • BSc (or equivalent qualification) in quantity surveying, law or procurement (or related discipline).
  • Post-graduate education is desirable, particularly in construction law (or related discipline).
  • Experience with UK civil engineering sector with basic technical understanding of working methods.
  • Very good negotiation skills and ability to convincingly carry complex arguments.
  • Can demonstrate a mix of pre-contract and project execution experience.
  • Ability to draft and amend contractual documents, including justifying decisions.
  • Logical approach to contractual and legal risk, with the ability to make recommendations.
  • Familiarity with a range of contractual documents (agreements, GTCs, collateral warranties, MOUs).
  • Experience of working with other disciplines (project managers, legal and engineering teams).
  • Familiarity with the underpinning principles of UK construction law.
  • Construction site experience desirable.
  • Member of (or working towards) RICS desirable.
  • Affiliation with relevant professional groups or professional networks desirable.
  • Clear communication skills with excellent written and spoken English, including ability to present.
  • Experience working in international business or diverse cultural environments desirable.
  • Excellent computer literacy and familiarity with industry-relevant applications.
  • Ability to manage own time and work independently, scheduling work to meet internal deadlines.
